Valentine's Day butterflies

Butterflies symbolize the beginning of spring with their beautiful and bright colors. Create a Valentine's Day butterfly with your child to welcome the upcoming season and celebrate the day meant for love.

What you'll need:

  • cardboard toilet paper roll
  • red and pink construction paper
  • 1 pipe cleaner, any color
  • scissors
  • markers
  • craft glue

What you'll do:

  1. Decorate the toilet paper roll by drawing on it with markers.
  2. Cut two medium hearts from the pink construction paper.
  3. Cut two larger hearts from the red construction paper.
  4. Decorate the four hearts by drawing on them with your markers.
  5. With the scissors, carefully poke a small hole through the top of the toilet paper roll.
  6. Thread the pipe cleaner halfway through the small hole.
  7. Bend the pipe cleaner so both ends are sticking up.
  8. Twist the two pieces together near the toilet paper roll (to keep it in place).
  9. Twist the top pieces of the pipe cleaner around your finger to create antennae.
  10. Glue the two large red hearts to the upper backside of the toilet paper roll (to form top wings).
  11. Glue the two medium pink hearts to the lower backside of the toilet paper (to form bottom wings).
